The Perfumer
With unassuming confidence, he believes that experience is not measured in years but from cultural immersion. His approach is through reinvention: “I like to work with traditional patterns, but I always give them a modern twist.” His debut fragrance for Molton Brown – Suede Orris – is a new take on 16th Century Florentine perfumery.
For Jérôme, perfume became an instinctive way to combine his studies in Chemistry with his passion for design. His olfactive education derives from his travels; paddling across Vietnamese rivers, exploring Moroccan souks and drinking incense water in Oman. Along the path, he learnt about rose oils, the heat of spices and the bespoke scent of cedarwood artistry.
Through his passionate reinterpretation of fragrance, Jérôme is also changing a way of thinking. Suede Orris Eau de Toilette was inspired by Catherine de Medici, a Florentine noblewoman who trail-blazed the fashion of wearing scented leather gloves: “It challenges the idea that orris is old-fashioned. I wanted it to be powdery, yet modern.”
