The Perfumer
Inspired by rural landscapes, perfumery has always been ‘a purpose’. The contemporary elegance of Vetiver & Grapefruit and the fearlessly feminine Jasmine & Sun Rose embody Julie’s penchant for revealing nature’s contradictory and unexpected secrets.
Growing up in the French countryside with a love of invigorating forest walks, Julie is instinctively drawn to woody-rooty notes. Her childhood was entrenched in fragrance, from playing with her grandmother’s sophisticated perfume bottles, to beating her cousins at ‘Le Loto des Odeurs’; a game where players match an eclectic mix of scents to images. Starting as a chemist in Grasse, Julie later trained at the Grasse Institute of Perfumery, under the notable perfumers Max Gavarry and Isabelle Burdel.
Julie finds a kinship between the emotional intensities of perfumery and her other passion – flamenco. The grounded nature of dance is reflected in her fragrance construction, with her base notes particular woody and bound to the earth. She seeks balance in all her creations, but also pushes boundaries by dialling up her scents with an overdose of certain ingredients. For Julie, perfumery must engage with memories and continuously evolve. ‘Every perfumer has a story – creation is endless.’
